Update 6/30/15
A little more assembly underway. A couple of interesting things to note here. As mentioned early on in my forum, I worked at a dealership through all of high school, college, and even a few years after college. The dealership had a pretty large salvage operation down the street (Sky Cycle Salvage). Knowing that one day I wanted to restore this bike I scrounged up whatever parts I could. This minty speedo and mounting bracket were a couple of the things I scored. 15+ years later they are finally ready for install. I do have a tach, but I'm not sure if I'll use it. All of my vintage pics of the bike are sans tach. If the bike leans too far to left, I'll put it on for better balance.
Handlebars are ever so slightly bent, but in the interest of conserving funds I'll give them a quick paint job and run em for now. Plus to get the original reminiscing juices flowing, might as well stick with these.
2 items in these pictures were epic Ebay scores to me. A fairly minty left hand switch assembly, and NOS ignition switch! I was almost certain that I would be improvising on these.
Speedo cleaned up.
Lots of elbow grease lately
Left switch assembly and NOS ignition switch score!
Progress
Older cousins looking on in the background.

Update 7/2/15
Picked up my new tire, went with the Shinko. I tried to make sure there were no snakes on the loose (inside joke
) It mounted up nice, and I'm happy with how it looks. If anyone out there is new to bikes or has never changed a tube type dirtbike tire, these enduro tires are a great place to learn. On the spectrum of tube type tire changes these are easy!
Made up a new screw for the damper and installed. I have a feeling this is going to be a leaker, but we shall see. Mounted up the Preston Petty front fender. I think I like the OEM low fender look better, but this one has been on the bike since almost day one so I am leaving it. The fender is pretty faded, but when wd-40'd it looks good. I bought some trim black bumper paint for this, but haven't committed to using it.
Did a quick rebuild and grease of the brake hub and installed the wheel just for the photo op. I'm still waiting for the new front wheel bearings.
One great thing about having had leaky fork seals, is that all parts south of the leak are in good shape since they were protected underneath a layer of oil and dirt.
Ready to mount, no snakes around.
Made a new damper screw
Almost runable!
Nice angle shot of my progess

Update 7/21/15
Some minor progress to report. Not too many exciting pics to share though. Installed the new front wheel bearings and mounted the wheel and brake assembly for the last time I hope. Installed the new front brake cable. I struggled a bit to get the brake arm on the proper spline position so that the cable would adjust without the adjuster being maxed out. In hindsight, I think I should have figured out where the brake arm needed to be, then remove the brake assembly from the drum so the arm could rotate further than it would if installed in the wheel. This would have given me a bit more slack to hook up the cable at the lever. Not sure if that was confusing or not, but PM me if you need details. The front end is pretty much all set now.
Getting some assembly help!
On to the rear end! Thanks to help on this site I decided Redwing's would be my shock of choice, and I ordered some on Ebay. I removed the rear wheel and dismounted the tire. The inside of the rim is badly rusted, but not as bad as the front. I will likely use this wheel, the question is whether or not I can clean the chrome up to an acceptable level. As mentioned in previous posts, I wanted to go with black powder coated wheels, but since I had to find a replacement front (and it happened to be nearly mint), now I'm second guessing that decision. The swing arm doesn't have any play, but it's not moving too freely so I wanted to pull it off. That's where I'm stuck now, the swing arm pivot bolt is frozen to the bushings. I've begun the soaking process, but this could turn into its own little project.
