Would you go along with the 32:1 ratio then?

I ran Castrol R40 at 16:1 racing in the 70's. Best lubrication at the time.  Nasty stuff though.

The legend oil is not dirty. Exactly the opposite.  Burns very clean.  (I can't say that I've noticed a "castor smell" from it...  the stuff I have seems pretty much odorless)

Be aware that low smoke 2T oils are not likely to protect motors, as well as oils without low smoke additives. That's according to testing outlined in a Yamaha Motor Co, technical paper, and probably explains why main bearing and big end wear, on vintage 2T motors, seems to be something that occurs much faster now, than way back, when there were no low smoke oils.

Apples and oranges. The Yamaha paper is about old technology "low smoke" oils with additives to minimize smoke that inhibit lubricity.

And here we go down the "oil thread" rabbit hole... I should have known better than to post a suggestion.

Polybutene is the main smoke reducing additive still being used today. The main issue is that PB is very thick, which means 2T oils intended for use in injection systems contain up to 20% solvent (by volume), which reduces lubrication performance even more.

MarkT

Oil threads can indeed be frustrating but because you’re here more than most “if a new person is asking a question it is our collective responsibility to try to welcome them into the group. Please keep an eye open for abuse of privilege here because we want new people to get just enough special attention so they don’t feel we’re Yama-Snobs.”

thank you all

Thanks for that consideration, MarkT.  I actually have a 1971 Yamaha DT1-E that I will be starting a 'restoration' on and I'm sure this all applies there too.  But first I've got to get my Honda MR250 Elsie on the road.  Do you have any advice as to obtaining some of this ZX-2R oil?  I'm having a hard time finding it or a a source via the internet searching - and I don't need the 4 gallons that seems to show up...har, har.
