I'll keep my head down. But if you pull it out i'm keen to know if its fatter & round ended both ends.
If not fatter it'd come out the mushroom end.
I think it 'is', but if i'm wrong could you lift out the actuator & somehow move the pushrod across.
Put compressed air down the actuator hole with the adjuster blocking the side hole--you'll soon know--should fly out.
Shine a light down actuator hole & see if the rod is obviously fatter. Or adjuster hole, might see better.

Is there 'any' or [significant] end play in the basket. Like is the flat bearing in there with running clearance only.
If there 'is' basket end play then there's room [in theory] to shorten the center spacer which will move the clutch hub over that same amount & solve your problem.
I could see room in the basket for the fiber drive plates to go further back without a problem
What am i forgetting???.--nut might run out of step to tighten against the hub. Etc Etc.

Did you ever measure down the hole in the shaft?
I don't have the dimension of the internal pushrod... I know I have some 1W1 versions that use the ball but not sure about the 401 version. You might have to buy a new one. How long is the one you removed?

Haha, that's cheating [sorry] but good plan & great to see it worked.
Can see its round ended as i thought so can't add a ball bearing unless you cut it halfway so evenly supported down the shaft.
Anyway i wouldn't do that. Just thinking up another plan overnight--could machine the required amount of the back of the hub so it moves over a bit [if basket clearance on the flat bearing is normal].
Then add a washer behind the lock tab so nut still comes up tight. I guess ya only talking a minimal amount to have a cure.
Question must be asked though [why is it all necessary]. f only motors could tell stories of what's been changed since new.
Sorry i'll go back n read updates now--jumping ahead i am.
