Thanks Schu, I'll search that on eBay. That looks exactly like the one I got, but it's not a Yamaha part. Also the screen on the tall tube fell off on mine, and will not stay in place, so I just left it off. I have an inline filter on it anyway. I think the one I bought was like $10. You get what you pay for.
By the way, does the Yamaha brand one I have a 1/4" or 5/16" outlet? My cheapo one has a quarter inch outlet.

Yesterday when I went out in the garage I could smell gas, and it turned out the carburetor overflow was leaking. I opened up the carburetor, and the float needle and seat don't look bad, and the overflow tube seems to be completely intact, but I ordered a new seat and valve.
However in the meantime I found that if I put a vise grip that closes off the gas from the tank, it stops the overflow leaking. Because that cheapo petcock won't shut off, when the bike is sitting it allows the pressure of fuel from above, which apparently overcomes the float valve. I ordered that Yamaha brand percock posted above, and I'll just use the vise grips until it arrives. When you search for a Big Bear/Timberwolf petcock on Amazon, basically all they list are the cheap ones with different brand names. Definitely avoid them!

I have 2 of them that I am using and I cut down the feed tube to match the old one and put a new groove for the filter to grab.
Working great.

Goatboy, you're using the cheap ones? If so, it could be that some of them work and some are garbage like mine.
It's really annoying when it doesn't work. Makes it a PITA to remove the tank or carburetor. And it's not just a slow drip when it's turned off, it's a good amount of gas coming out.

No the Yamaha 3JN-24500-10 ones. My neighbor works on outboards and orders from boats.net a lot so did not have to pay shipping charges. I think they were $22.00 each.

Thanks for clarifying. I actually found the genuine Yamaha part on Amazon, and it sells for $50 there. That eBay seller is listing it for a good price.

Often the Yamaha DEALER is the cheapest place for parts that are still readily available.
Ebay and Amazon sellers often sell new parts at 2x what you can get them for from Yamaha...

I've used the same dealer here in Salisbury, UK for 40+ years. I just email them for price and availability and ask them to order if still available. Gr8auntiepat then picks them up for me when she does the weekly shop!

For decades we had a great Yamaha dealership in my city, but then someone took over that mismanaged it and they went out of business years ago. Now the closest one is quite a drive, so that makes ordering things online much more attractive. Partzilla lists the same petcock for $22, but then you pay shipping. By the way, good tip GoatBoy about cutting down the tall tube to match the original.

From what I found out it looks like Partzilla and Boats.net are one in the same so I am lucky that my neighbor orders there a lot and have not had paid the shipping charges.
