Yes must agree it does look that way if everything 'that is there' right up to the case bearing is shown in the photos.

thanks for the help and keep the ideas coming. whatever I do with what I have, there is a lot of end play in the basket.
After I figure this out, my next project will be to figure out how to load an avatar.

Ok i guess the bearing is missing if you have bulk basket end movement. I have no luck linking ebay, but saved a pic off ebay & really looks like everything you need including the small washer which is first in to give the big washer running clearance from the case bearing. Ok i guess you don't need the big washer as you have 'that'. Be carefull buying new flat bearing as i saw one googling ebay that didn't have the thin washer. I guess people have been caught out by that before. Bearing & washer are bought as one item.

If ya real lucky & this washer will fit on the spacer it could take the place of the flat bearing. Just sit it on there between big washer & kick gear. I've done worse & got away with it. Obviously that's how the TY250 runs anyway.#16 but i don't know it internal size & spacer might be smaller but still 250 so who knows. Should be quite a thick washer possibly equal to the flat bearing with its washer. Or any good quality hardened washer would do of the right thickness. Putting this number on ebay worked for me this time. 332634771392

I'm guessing a lot so might not fit.

New brake rear brake shoes came today so I can get the rear up on wheels. After I finish lacing the new rim for my triumph. I never knew being retired would be so much work.
I'm thinking there is a good chance I need the flat bearing. Is there any place preferred to buy parts? Or is it just the bay and partzilla?

You might try your local Yamaha dealer for bearings.

There's a new one on ebay with washer for $17 shipped.
Stay away from the $14 one without associated washer.

Member 1971 DT250 is correct. your missing # 17 and 19. number #17 is a 2 piece part. You have to look real close at the parts picture on partzilla to see the thrust plate next to the bearing. You can get it on e-bay. Just make sure you get both together from who ever you buy from. Some people just have the bearing when they list it with that part number.
When you slide the spacer on the shaft after installing # 19 and 18 be sure the bearing and outer plate are up on the spacer and not laying on the shaft. Of the 2 thrust plates you show in your picture ( #18) one goes between primary drive and boss clutch. Just like it shows on the parts diagram.
Here is pictures of mine disassembled. dis-regard the 1st washer to the left. It goes on the kickshaft assembly. Not sure why i had it sitting in line with the clutch pieces. The thrust plate you see laying on top in picture 2 goes between those 2 pieces. Clutch boss and primary drive.
