Getting close to carb time. I ordered a new Mikuni VM24-512 carb. The air intake throat shows 44mm. I still have the old air box w/cage and lid, but I am missing the air cleaner joint. Is it going to be possible to find a joint and get it to fit or am I better off using a K&N filter ( or other recommended filter). If you say aftermarket cone I would need some advice as I am not sure the filter area is large enough on an aftermarket cone to supply the needed air. 

OK can anybody tell me the measurement of an original carb intake bell?

I can check mine in the morning if nobody else gets back to you beforehand

I think I saw those joints on KDI reproductions site. Not expensive. 

Original CT3 carb is 43 mm.
Just checked the Mikuni VM24-512 and it is also 43mm.
The cold air joint for the CT3 (314-14453-00) is different to the KDI part 248-14453-00-00 which is for the AT1/CT1, I don't think it will fit as the CT3 boot is offset.

Thank you so much. I found the joint at Claus Studios for $40. I ordered an intake manifold, so if they measure up,I can keep the original air box (maybe). Thanks again I needed that measurement as I do not have the original carb.

Not sure how applicable it is since it sounds like you're squared away, but for what it's worth, also have a VM24-512 and ditched my air box just because I liked an air cleaner being cleaner looking.  I got one of the short wide circular K&N's (1.5" tall, 4-5" diameter) and it JUST wedges in between the carb and frame. (due to my reed adapter for the VM24-512 taking a little more length).

Thx it is always good to have a back up plan. Do you have the product number for your K&N filter? Also did you use the spacer between the manifold and the adapter plate?

K&N part I got is F018E4.  Now I can't find it on their website so there may be a cross reference possibly.  Same one as this thread:

Also forgot to mention, I am using a spacer/adapter to your point.  Can't remember where I found it though, or if I got it the same place as the carb.
