Hey!

Thanks so much for the info, it's all greatly appreciated.  So cool.  The bike doesn't have any decals now, it had been painted by a previous owner a dark green.  But I did find Baja Brown on VMR paints, they make a primer and a clearcoat.  Also found the replica Yamaha and stripe decals on diablocycle.com.
But to answer your question, it looks like the paint is metallic based, and requires an acrylic lacquer finish coat, which they also sell.  All in all about $250 in materials if I can do this myself, which I'm going to attempt.  Wish me luck here...

Just use the correctly adjusted factory compression release. But often times (every bike I’ve taken apart) the small hole where the compression exits to the exhaust is carboned up and completely closed off. Removing the carbon is somewhat tedious even with the cylinder off the machine.

Just added a second RT3 to the garage, this one is a 900 mile bike barn find. So now I have twins to restore. It has a non Yamaha luggage rack and it’s actually in pretty nice condition over all.

Doesn't look like it needs much restoring and, assuming that the mileage is genuine, probably hasn't even been run in yet!

Did it come with what you chaps call a title?

This one looks to be a genuine 900 mile bike. Clay bar and polish on the fuel tank shows good things to come for a survivor restoration. Photos from a iPhone 13 great camera color capture!
