Just got my RT3 running, re-built the carb, checked the timing, new points, and did a survivor refreshing to get it running and riding. Starts first kick which is nice for a RT3, if you know how to do it, bruised ankle if you don't. I'll ride and annoy the neighbors for a while then it's a winter project to restore. I have an obscene amount of new RT3 parts ready to go.

Looking forward to it. I have a fourth RT3 that is under construction.

Growing up in my home town, we had Larson's Cycle... The 2 Larson brothers, whom were about 3 years older than I, had Burgundy colored Yamaha's... 125's I believe...  That picture( ^^^^^^^) opened up that memory.. Thank you for posting!

I've been lucky enough to have had an RT-1, RT-2, and this is my second RT-3. After today's ride I had forgotten how nice they are to cruise, great power band, lots of torque, I see why Bill has four. I rode it yesterday for the first time since owning it and after a couple more tweaks it should be sorted, front forks are/were tweaked, we'll see after today's afternoon ride ;)

Ok, I'm bragging and showing off.

This RT1B has not had gas, oil or battery acid put in it since the restoration. (I plan to change the seat and front wheel). I have another RT1B that will be a rider when finished. The 360s are a lot of fun to ride but I prefer the '73 DT3 250 for riding, smoother and easier to start.

Awesome!! I'm working on a RT3 restore that my Dad gifted me, under the condition of a restore. A couple questions if you have a se:

-Any idea where I can find the baja brown paint color?
-The stripe on the gas tank: Is it painted or a decal?
-It is moody. Sometimes it fires up for me, and other times it just won't start. Compression is pretty heavy on the kickstart as well as you know...I've cleaned out the carb, replaced plugs, etc but still having some problems with it. Any recommendations?
-Any desire to sell some of the RT3 parts you said you have?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Marblesmotors.com has custom paint. They list the Baja Brown.

The stripes are decals. speedansportinc.com has reproduction decals. On 2 of my RT3 360 Enduros the stripes were painted on.

The 360 will let you know who is boss when kickstarting. With proper jetting and the ignition timing set to spec they will start given you have good piston, rings and cylinder, free flowing exhaust and air filter plus the decomp valve functional and not clogged.

I have some nice parts I'm willing to sell. Send me a PM.

Thanks you so much for the info!  I contacted Marble, they have it and can paint it for me but the cost came in about $1k more than I want to spend.  I'm gonna try to paint it myself and use those decals.  We'll see how it goes.

I think I need to check and see if the decomp valve is clogged, and maybe clean out the exhaust.

I'll let ya know what exactly I'm looking for as far as parts in a bit to see if you have them.

Thanks again here,
Matt

Hi Matt.
Is the paint 2 pack or water based ?
Also is Baja brown metallic based ?
I lacquered over my decals as i hate it when they pick up bits on the edges from cleaning .
I painted ,then a coat of lacquer let it dry for a week then polished it back with cutting paste.
Then i washed it with detergent and dried off and gave it a good wipe with a tack rag.
Three coats of 2 k lacquer with 20 mins between each coat.
let it cure for three weeks then flatted back with 1500,2000,3000 wet and dry. Then Feracle G3 cutting paste by hand .The finish is like glass.
I have a mate who's been a painter all his life and that's what he told me to do.
Thought id pass that on to you.
Shyted.
