Hey swm ... I was watching this on eBay ..... Glad you made it yours and it's another '68 saved .... If it were mine I'd get parts which are universal to the 68,69,70 DT 1 and get it going and then pick off any '68 only parts as and when they are available/affordable ..... Good luck !
Cheers

T1,
Thanks!! You're spot on with my thoughts to hopefully bring this old DT1 back from the dead. Initial plan was swap heads & resell the rolling parts bike, but I quickly changed strategy after expert advice & education from BigDog & drdrmann.
Also, VERY grateful for parts assistance from Capt. Dave!!
Thanks again,
swm

SWM,
When you get more into your restore and start looking for parts send me a message here of what you're looking for. I still need to get my 2nd DT1 back up and running (GYT'd) to ride, but it's pretty complete and I have collected a lot of DT1 parts over the past 8 years. I'm a commercial fisherman and spend most of the Summer here in Alaska catching salmon and halibut, but I take a break for 3 weeks in July and most of September off (best times to reach me). Glad you're going to restore, as it's so sad to have to part a bike out (especially '68 enduros)......but sometimes there's not much left. I do know where there are a handful of new correct tachs, but they are expensive. Enjoy the Summer!

Referencing my ROUGH '68 DT1 at beginning of this thread, I've picked up a few of the '68 only parts, with more to locate. Question, is the headlight bucket interchangeable with other years or 1968 only?
Thanks!
Thanks!

the headlight bucket for the 1969-71 models have a rubber dampener in the bolt holes on them. the 1968 DT1 headlight bucket has no insulators in it at all.
the later DT1 headlights should bolt up fine but are not 1968 DT1 correct.

Say I'd like to get on the list too, for some of Dave C. early DT-1 parts mainly the early speedo, an early kick starter for DT1-007XX. Its almost finshed, I think those two parts are the last major parts I need. Thanks Surfing

Surfing,
I could be wrong (and often am...) the '68 dt1 on ebay may have the early kick starter w/bolt in 4 o'clock position you needed, and speedo too. You probably don't want to buy entire bike to get these parts but food for thought if in fact this is a "real deal" early kick starter, which appears to be on a not so early VIN # DT1-09408. My '68's # 039xx, 043xx & 069xx all have kick starter w/bolt in 6 o'clock position.
Good luck
