1971 CT1 adding blinkers was created by kickstand
OK so I finally found some blinkers for my 1971 ct1 175 and im having a heck of a time getting them to work. I have power to the blinker flasher relay and to the head light bucket and then to the blinker switch. but nothing going back to the bucket out to the blinkers. Any ideals.? And does anyone know what the yellow light is for next to the green neutral ? all other lights appear to be working fine.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Sounding a bit like a problem in the blinker switch. without studying but hopefully remembering--you should have power out of the blinker switch via dark brown & dark green & if your lightbrown & white is live going in then---dive in but be careful. Spray something in there & give it a bit of left right work. Yellow-ish-orange light will be blinker light on the tacho i think running the dark gree & dark brown in. Could be corrected though as don't want to send you down the garden path.

My first step would be to test that the blinkers and bulbs work before fitting. Connect direct to a 6v battery (assuming that 6v bulbs are fitted!), connect the wire coming out of the hollow mounting bolt (or the hole alongside it, depending what style of blinker you have) to one terminal, and run a wire from the other terminal to touch anywhere on the blinker body. For the purposes of this exercise, it doesn't matter which terminals you use. The bulb should light up.
Which relay are you using, original Yamaha or a modern one? If modern, then note the following (copied from one of MarkT's posts!):-
Be aware that modern three pin relays are not the same as original Yamaha ones. You only really need a two pin one and the brown wire goes to the pin marked B or X and the Brown/White to the pin marked L.
Make sure that the indicators are getting a good earth, particularly if an original relay is being used - fronts from the handlebars and rears from the frame (might be an issue if the frame is powder coated).
The wires for the left indicators connect to dark brown, and for the right to dark green, even though the wires themselves might be black.

I wonder if you just bypass the flasher unit & join brown & brown white together which will just turn the blinkers into lights for testing to see if power is getting right through. Blinkers need to be earthed to the frame if they're single wire type.
Idealy the handlebars or top triple clamp should have an earth going back to any spare black--not magneto black--or just earth it back to the loom earth wherever it is, at the coil I think under the tank. Otherwise you're relying on it earthing through the steering bearings back to the frame. In saying that I've never had a problem but was just a thought. Powder coated handlebars wouldn't earth without help too.

I think I may have figured it out. When I connect any of the indicators lights to brown and white wire they work, but when I connect both front and back at the same time nothing.
So when got the lights they didn't come with bulbs they where burned out so I went on line and got new ones, they said it would fit 1971 CT1 6v didn't, I think to check the w, there 21w. I don't think the poor think has enough DC to power 21w X 2. My Clymer Yamaha service repair manual they should be 8w. What do yo think could that be it?

That's clever--yes i'd say you've solved it. Bulbs must match the relay within limits. Always used to be written on the base of the unit. Might say 8WX2+3 which is just two blinker bulbs plus the one in the tacho to tell you you they're working-- & time to cancel them. Yamaha had a timer thing on later road bikes by memory to cancel them--or am i dreaming haha. If your is 8W you can generally get away with 10W for a slightly faster flash.

On my Ct1c I use 1129 bulbs available at your auto parts store with a modern flasher relay no problem plus your blinkers will be brighter

Ok! Was able to get the blinker to flash using a modern day flasher two prong but now all the lights flash, blinkers head light, indicator and tail light .
I was able to get the original flasher only to turn on blinker lights but not flash.
What you thoughts ?
