"Just wind the adjuster right off the thread then only need one hacksaw cut to get it on & along."

Yes, that was what I was thinking.

Interestingly, no replies on some original Yamaha cables being supplied without the plate.

Alan, two of mine have the KDI cables without the clamp and I haven't had any problems.
If it's adjusted correctly, there's only a slight play.
Just pop it on and hit the road

I really never paid much attention to it, but Pete's right. You don't really need that clamp. It's not even holding the elbow down, the elbow is staying in by cable tension. You can see the space between the clamp and the flange on the elbow. The clamp is not holding it down. Maybe the clamp was designed to keep that elbow in the hand grip when the other ends of the cable are disconnected?

I unsoldered the carb end off of mine and installed the old clamp and then reinstalled the carb cable end.

It's a good safety feature for when you go riding in the forrest & a stray branch hooks the cable out of the twist grip & 'Away You Go'. Pretty hard to pull it out with the bracket.

The only thing Alan might catch that cable on will be an RD wing mirror as he wheels it out of the garage
