Right-side Shifter for DT-1B was created by Traderyoda
Greetings all!
I have need of a right-side mounted shifter for a DT-1B engine. It's a JDM motor and it my setup I need the shifter on the right. I have some shifters but none will clear the case when mounted on the right side. I'll either had to extend the shift shaft or modify the shifter and re-chrome. If anyone has a shifter that would work and save me the hassle please drop me a line.
THX.

Might have to modify one or put a bend in a left side original but still need about 5.5 inches from center of footrest to center of gear lever. Just a measurement i go by that suits my foot i guess. Keen to know & see how your brake pedal operates over to the left. Cheers.

Does a picture of this right side shifter exist anywhere? I ask because I bought a CT3 that had an extra long shifter on the left side. It might have been from some random other bike but the P.O. would have had to have a very long foot to reach it. If the right side is the same length as a regular shifter this definitely isn't what you're looking for.

It's more a width vs. length issue. The shifter shaft is original. The right side shifter had to extend further out to get around the case on the right. I have a shifter that's the correct length but it contacts the case. I could weld an extension on the shaft to get around the problem but I'd hoped to find an original lever that works vs mucking with the original shaft. I"ll see if I have a pic of a right-side shifter. However, a longer level might help if I can re-bend it to swing out farther and then bend forward. Would have to be re-chromed.

Ebay just pinged me the shifter is not longer available. Looks like you got it! Hope it works! I wondered why people used these. Sound like mostly for flat track racing.

Not just for flat track... it wasn't until about 1975 that the US mandated standard controls on motorcycles. Before then, many, many bikes, mostly European/UK brands, had right side shift and left side brake.
So if you had a Ducati or Triumph in the garage already, you might prefer converting your DT1 to right-side shift.
After 1975 or so, US law prohibited sales of new motorcycles that did not have standard controls which included left-side shift and right-side brake. Most brands conformed to the US specs a few years before that in anticipation and these days I'd guess the whole world still does.

I did indeed get the shifter and it arrived and is in pretty decent shape. I tried to fit with the case on and ran into a hitch - clearly I don't have the shaft installed correctly - have to sort out where those two circlips on the shaft go. The motor is an early DT-1B and I need to find the correct shifter assembly diagram. But eyeballing it looks right.
