Does anyone else remember repainting the blue and silver oval Ford badges back in the day, I do

Who knew back then that I'd be doing the same thing with Yamaha badges.
With the black badges unobtainable at the moment and not wanting any of the alternatives, thought I'd revisit my youth and mod the readily available AT1 badges.
Will post end results, so far so good.

Mark it was a combination of sanding with multi tool, sanding with Dremel, some 600 wet and dry and a pen knife for some of the tight areas around the screw mounts.
It's time consuming, but quite satisfying, thankfully I only have two that I need to do.
Strange that the red ones are available but not the black.
When I restored my CT1-C their was a few of the black ones around, wish I'd bought more back then.

Nice!
One word of caution. I had some badges made for me that were clear coated by dipping them in an epoxy. They looked really nice. But when I tightened the mounting screws it flexed the badge and the epoxy lost adhesion and made an air bubble around one of the screws.

So be careful not to tighten the screws any more than needed or you might see the same issue with your paint.

More challenges or opportunities to excel are ahead.
Managed to straighten out the exhaust and baffle today, then discovered rot at the other end and a few prods later I can see I have more welding to do.
Welding is missing from my CV, but 2025 is going to be the year I learn a new skill.
I'm lucky to have a friend who has a fabrication business nearby and I've already primed him that I want to learn and he's happy to help.
I've ordered a mandrel formed bend for the exhaust and a length of 25mm tube for the baffle, so I can replace the cross drilled piece.
This James Bond 007 bike is reluctantly being dragged back.
Other jobs completed were straightening the rear brake pedal and brake rod.
Every job done, no matter how small, moves the project forward.

Great day in the fab shop working on the exhaust.
The preformed bend had a slightly larger diameter so I had to remove the full bend from the exhaust.
Had to make a new exhaust end to meet the cylinder.
All of the welds are at various angles, so not as straight forward as it could be.
Used the bike as a guide and tacked in situ, then welded on the bench.
No welding for me, my friend Mark just got on with it and did a great job.
Glad we made the effort to reproduce the seams.
I think we did a good job and with a little bit of tidying I think it'll look pretty original.
