Got a chance to work on it with my son this weekend. Pulled off the seat, tank, pipe and silencer, and then the head. It's soaking in Kroil right now. Have been able to get the piston to move 0.5 inches so far.

That's going to be fun when up & running. Plenty of power to be had waiting in there. It's a shame when bikes get parked up for years & go rusty like that, but it happens.

Figuring that I'll have to go .25 over on this piston and rings. Been seeing different opinions on different makers of pistons. Anyone know what is available for this bike other than a Wisco? Or do you have good opinions on Wiscos?

Wiseco goes in steps of 0.5mm. If shop bores to Wiseco spec... not a "little extra clearance"... and you check ring gap to make sure it's not too tight, they work great in my experience. I've used them for decades and never had an issue.
(Being a racing piston, in the early days instructions said to file the end gap to get it perfect... ring gap is something that should always be checked even with OEM parts. But people ignored the instructions and had issues. Wiseco has since opened up the ring gap so not likely required to file... but should be checked.)
Check with Enduronut to see if he might have an OEM piston.
Wossner or Vintco are two other potential sources.

I can find 1978 IT400 piston and rings all over but nobody lists a 1979. Were they different than the 1978?
Edit: After doing a little bit more reading, I see that they are different sizes diameters. This should be fun trying to find one.
