Thanks Frank! it will get better over time, especially when I get all the parts needed and get the paint to do the oil tank and fuel tank and the fenders and other remaining parts.

The two things I noticed.....
there was no smoke coming out of your bike , you were smoking more than your bike !
The bike sounds lean to me....based on my experience it's jetted too lean.
Just my observations.
Cool project

thanks Meis! the engine was cold and it did not warm up very much. when not riding it, it takes a good long time to warm up in cold weather.
here is a riding video on this bike and by hearing it run. it pretty much runs perfect and not by any means lean. the plug has a chocolate color and the way it returns to idle is perfect as well. it was pretty cold and it is a cold natured beast. it runs cooler than the bone stock 75 DT400.

It sure sounds great in the video.....not lean at all!
I bet that MX400B jug makes great power....lots of top-end pull.
When you wind up a big bore.....you better be holding on tight !

Hey Big Dog. I just put dunlop D 606`s on my wr250f. Great tyre. Area in Sydney smack bang in the middle of the northern suburbs called red hill. Heaps technical with boulder climbs and eroded step ups. I almost went for trials tyres. These things climb slippery rocks so well. Great tyre..
When in doubt, power out !

That's no joke! I got the clutch to stop slipping and it pulls so hard in 3rd gear it is hard to keep the grips from tearing loose from your hands.
it is thoroughly strong running! it is the hardest accelerating bike I had been on in a long time. even my 1979 CR250R can't touch it!

I have heard that the D606 is a great tire. this bike is going to need a great tire to put that power down off road. they do well on pavement as well but I would ride it more conservatively on paved roads.

Here is a bonus video, all 4 of my big bores and the 1978 DT175 bringing up the rear.

in this update, I address the problem of the throttle only opening at 3/4 throttle and here is how I did it.
first off the cable has this much slack in it at closed throttle.
This image is hidden for guests.
I fashioned a metric screw and drilled down the center.

it was a allen head screw and I bored out the flat sides so it would rest on the throttle cap cable tube and screwed it in to the throttle cable nut.

now say ahh.

I test rode the bike and when I dialed it on WOT, it at the time acted like the clutch slipped but when I got on it again later in 3rd and shifted into 4th the bike fishtailed a bit in 3rd and 4th gear. now I have a baseline with the Hooker pipe installed, I can fit it with the MX400B pipe and I can make a fair back to back comparison. I need to get the D606 tires really soon to enjoy the power this thing has.
either one of the 2 RT1s has nothing on this bike. now I need to find my Chest mount for my Go Pro.
