thanks!
makes total sense, you lay out the benefits I seek, minus more advance because I am fine with power as is, especially after Xmas meltdown.

I was looking at the Rex kit with fixed timing that would accept my 6V lighting coil, which quite honestly have have no issue with because all my 6V electrics work to my satisfaction and because I am not keep to ride this thing at night.

Do you have any experience with this Rex fixed timing kit that I assume would accept my 6V lighting coil?

thanks again

The full race kit is advertised to have an advance/retard curve which is actually better for det resistance than the standard fixed timing.  It's running less advance at higher revs where you typically burn a motor down.  I still need to put a timing light on mine to see if it's actually doing that but it is supposed to be.  I suspect it is since I can cruise at 5000-6000 RPM without constant detonation.  To replicate this with fixed timing you would have to take so much advance out that the bike would be a complete dog.

If you're going to shell out any significant amount of money you might as well go for the high end kit.  As far as spark energy I think the stock ignition is satisfactory.  The real gains in power and reliability are in the timing curve.  Without that you might as well have points.

The 12v conversion is straightforward too.  You need bulbs and a battery.  I don't have turn signals but if you do you'll need a 12v relay as well.
