Don’t think I’ll ever look at those cables the same after this. Thanks for the contribution. The grip side of the equation which I dismissed as simple enough may need addressing. What if any prep do you give to the throttle tube and/or bars. Dry lubricant perhaps?

I clean the inside of the throttle tube and the handlebar with BBQ lighter fluid...then just a spritz of silicon spray.  The nylon and chrome seem to be happy this way, assuming no burrs

Ok, that’s interesting. The bbq starter serves as a solvent? Will it flash off and not leave residue? Seems like it may leave a bit of a film behind. That tip may be useful for lots of stuff. Thanks.
