Just needs the strap and the bash plate to go back on, when the running troubles settle down, and a battery and some new tires, wow these old tires are so freaking HARD!

What oil are you guys running in your vintage bikes. This is an 83 Honda 4 stroke and I decided to try the Castrol Magnatec as I got a good deal on it. Semi synthetic. Seems good so far.

Put over 200kms on this old chugger and it is clear it needs new rings and maybe a new piston and even a bore. So it's all back to the shed for a top end!! Still I did have some fun with it so far.

I have used honda gn4 in my general 4 stroke bikes and hp4 in my 450R mx bike.  I ran the same oil in my vintage 2 stroke  Yamahas for a long time.   

I recently I found out the Yamalube was ma2 rated vs ma.  For first time tried ylube in 360 after clutch change.  Worked well too.  

I change oil so frequently not sure it matters.  





 

Are those mineral oil? I usually use whatever smells good. PIty it goes dark so quickly, it looks good all shiny gold.

I've now tuned the carb to run super lean and may be able to squeeze some more kms out of it before it needs a tear down or a chain and sprocket set.

It is possible to service the carbs in situ but getting the needles out and back in is super crazy anxiety inducing fiddly but it is very possible and way easier than removing that his and hers dual setup!!!!

Got it running about 95% now but the first 1/10th of the throttle is really snatchy, feels like it's pulling my underpants off!

Still tuning the carbs, which is tough work, small steps in the right direction

Wow this engine runs HOT! Never had a bike with an engine that ran this hot that I can remember. I checked it out and discovered it's not uncommon to hit (300F ! ) 130c !!! It's just the nature of the beast. Running better and better, still needs a big chunk of TLC but a great stable mate to the DT125.

Might've said i had the 350 version about 25 years ago bought it as a basket case with a cracked head around the valve seat area. Think it was a known problem. Nothing to loose so just re-assembled it & she ran like a top. Wish i'd kept it now. My whole life is a life of Hindsight's haha.
