OOps I found myself a new project Honda XLX250R MD08 was created by Reed valve Richards
Hey guys, winter is kicking in here and I found myself a new project, Honda XLX250R MD08, I have not owned one of these before and will probably be doing some head scratching, at least it comes with a key. Wife is not happy but says if it keeps me out of trouble for now she will try to ignore it!
I will be more than grateful to get any help and advice as I start to delve into valve territory

Over 20 years ago I introduced my two boys to motorcycles and we went thru a whole string of Honda XR’s. We had the 100, 200, 250, and 600. My favorite was the XR200. It was the perfect bike on the tight forest trails that we rode. XR’s are like farm tractors. Keep them well oiled and they will run forever.
Both of my boys currently own an XR. One has an XR600 and the other has an XR650L. I guess I did my job planting the seed when they were young.

Schu that's so neat, lovely to hear how you introduced your family to the joys of trail riding. The XR was / is supposedly a little more MX focused, the XLX has I believe slightly poorer suspension and this model has the tweedle dee tweedle dum carb set up - oh no, standing up is enough balancing for me

Thats a good looking bike. Looks like its all there and not beat up.
I have a few 4 strokes. One thing to do is check the VALVE LASH and make sure its good.

PABT thanks for that, I will, the nice thing about Honda's is you can just pop the valve covers. The headers look very rusted and I'm worried that the bolts are corroded on. I'm still not sure if I can actually use the bike as I'll need some paper work from the seller. Not going anywhere right now as it's snowing!

OK, looks like the seller doesnt have a title and he doesnt want to give me a bill of sale either. It is sometimes possible to register small capacity bikes here, without documents, but it kind of depends who is on the gate at the licensing center on the day. I am in this so far for 321.05 usd and was going for a record budget build,
The next step is to find a frame with a title and do the old swaperoo - I guess that would keep me busy for a while and force me to touch up the frame, whatever. Project is in stasis for now!

If all you need is a bill of sale, how about giving it to a friend and then buying back from them with a bill of sale?

MarkT that is possible, the thing is you technically need a bill of sale, a valid title and a whole host of other documents. It has been known that some prefectures will provide a new title for a bike if you provide photos and so on but other prefectures wont. One of my friends is a solicitor so he could probably do that. The usual option is to buy the appropriate frame with a title and a bill of sale as some reputable places do this as they part out a bike. Looks like that will be the route I take. Bureaucracy is so heavy here. Dong! You need a 'family stamp' and you also need a document, 'this document proves this IS my family stamp'. It's kind of funny I guess!
