I got this bike from the son of a dear friend who passed away this year. He bought it years ago and it just sat. I extricated it from it's shallow grave and brought it home to start working on it and get it going. Shows 3300 miles on odometer. I farted around with it yesterday and today, got it running after all the usual stuff you'd do to a 50 year old bike. I feel really blessed to have gotten such a complete bike, that hasn't been run into the ground or had all it's parts scattered and lost. I even got the tool kit with what looks like all the tools in it. It still needs a lot more tlc and tuning, but I figured I'd show it off here.

I see your bike has a CALIF plate and is current. I have the same bike and am located in NorCal. Its really hard to find a complete bike like that.
Looking forward to more posts about it.

Thanks guys, The plates are not current. It's out of the system and the son is still trying to find the title. I'm not terribly worried about it, I can get one, but it's a hassle and an added expense

I put a new battery in yesterday, expecting to see something light up but alas, no change whatsoever. It "runs", but not so good. I really need to pull that carb back off and go through it real good. I have some parts coming for that. meanwhile just cleaning and evaporust for some of the extremities ravaged by time and exposure. I thought the chain was a goner, but after soaking all night, it looks like new.Not quite sure how I got pictures on here in my first post, but somehow I can't seem to figure it out this morning...

I wonder if picture posting has randomly started working again? For over a year now you've had to use a 3rd party host.
On the chain, I'm going to warn FALSE ECONOMY! The basic drive chain is actually a remarkable piece of engineering metallurgy... reminds me of the "lost art" of Japanese sword manufacture that resulted in a extremely tough, yet flexible, blade that remained sharp and almost indestructible....
Chains are case hardened... hard on the outside and soft on the inside... the case hardening makes it strong and able to withstand high shock loads without breaking. The problem is the case hardening is thin and even a tiny bit of rust can SEVERELY weaken a drive chain. It might look fine after the rust is removed... until it fails without warning and takes out the engine cases and possibly more.
A very high quality 520 RK racing chain only costs $30 to $40 which is cheap insurance against the catastrophic damage of a chain failure. I've learned this the hard way.

I promise I won't reuse the chain. I already have a new RK oring chain. I had a blown 10amp fuse that was making it so I had no electrical power to anything after putting in the new battery. Now I have tail, brake, turn signals, turn signal indicator on the tach, and the horn.
I didn't try starting it again today, just ordered a carb kit, an air filter, got a can of Berrymans carb dip, some pb blaster and an ultrasonic cleaner to replace the crappy old one that konked out on me
clean up is coming along nicely. I'll try and get some pics up in the next day or so
and MarkT, I still had to use Imgur

Floats and carb kit came in, and I got the carb back together yesterday. fuel puking out the bowl vent is solved, starts pretty much on first or second kick. Idles pretty nice, but still pumps put white smoke like nothing I have ever seen. I'm sure the pipe and muffler are full of oil, and my initial fuel was 50:1 Truefuel, so along with the autolube pump it's got a lot of oil entering the chamber. After work I'm going to fit a new chain and try to ride it and see if the smoke clears a little. still waiting on a new OEM air filter. I was so happy to have received this bike from my late friend's estate so I was looking for "Yamaha 2 stroke" on FB Marketplace and found another bike that I picked up this past weekend. I will make a another post to show more of this one...

White smoke could indicate a blown right side crank seal, so sucking in and burning gearbox oil. I believe that the seal can be replaced without removing/splitting the engine.
