Spark issue was created by Thanney

Hi everyone, I know this is mainly a Yamaha site but I need some help with a 1977 Suzuki tc100!

The issue arose when I went to time the bike. I went to adjust the points when I stripped the adjuster screw! I drilled the damn this out, being careful not to damage anything, and replaced it with one from ace. The only difference between them is one is brass and the new one is stainless.

I timed the bike and put everything back together and now I’m getting no spark. Anyone have any ideas?

I’ve tried
new spark plug
cleaned breaker points
charged battery

I even reopened it today and rechecked and retimed and still nothing.

It could be the condenser or the ignition coil but I would find it hard to believe they would fail as soon as I timed the bike.

thank you

Check for the drilling shavings shorting out the system.

I’ll check again but I thought I cleaned them up well.

Also, I just checked the resistance of the condenser and it read 500kohm which is much too low. Maybe it’s just a failed condenser?

I guess tc100 is still magneto not generator like tc185 I had once. So battery is irrelevant for spark. Be unusual to have a brass screw to retain points but at least now you have stainless. Have you accidentally connected the wire under the insiulsting washer rather than on top. Or lost the spacer through the middle if they have that to stop the points wire bolt shorting through the bent ear. I'm guessing a bit that they only need one wire from mag to top coil & think Suzy mag might be black/white but don't quote me on that.

I’m thinking I may have some metal shavings in there that is shorting the points to ground. Will pull it apart and let yall know. Thank you for the tip!
