Hi all.
The needle in the speedo of my CT3 seems to be linked directly to the cable!
So when the wheel turns forward the needle goes all the way up and when the wheel turns back the needle comes back down....
I'm not sure how these instruments work - is this something that could be freed off or is it just broke and needs a full rebuild?
See video imgur.com/a/9210kLD
Appreciate any help on this one.
Thanks!

There is usually a magnet that spins inside a drum. In general terms.. As the magnet spins faster, the magnetism draws the drum more powerfully against a spring and the movement of the drum turns the needle.
If the drum is binding against the magnet, it will cause what you describe.

OK great, thanks for that, so it will need a rebuild.
Cheers.

Most likely debris.
Piece of something between the permanent magnet and the aluminum cage.
They work on eddy current. Faster=stronger attraction.

Further investigation shows that the central boss that the cable fits to is loose and is being pulled back by the cable putting the drum/magnet out of line I guess. When I push it forward a little the speedo works normally.
The visible screws on the bottom of the instrument are not loose.
