71-73 100-175 service manual in the Tech Library has the bulbs wattages listed in the specs section at the front.

Sounds like they are correct, enough light to go about 25mph is stock.

Sounds like you're talking replaceable bulbs not sealed unit. So the lower the wattage the brighter the light to the point of blowing the bulb if you go too far down. For example if it has 6volt 25-25 std & you go to 20-20 or even 15-15 watt as we could in nz then you'll get brighter lights as makes better use of the AC mag power available. Same goes for the tail light so go to the lowest legal tail--stop/tail bulb. Also not uncommon to end up with 12 volt bulbs by mistake in which case you'll be lucky to see the front guard at night. Even the instrument bulbs can help & if 3 watt then go to 1.5 watt on the AC speedo & tacho bulbs that are run off the mag. If the tail light is battery powered, as might be in the usa i think i'd still go as low as you feel safe for brightness as helps the battery retain more charge. Our tail lights in NZ are magneto powered like the headlight. My old AT1 i forgot the battery was toast & in one of its rare start ups i gave it a rev & for some stupid reason i turned the lights on & poof--gone. I ordered some 12 volt halogen bulbs mainly for my old TRX300 quad as cost nearly nothing with free postage from china, but i'll run one in my bike with no battery just for farm running down out country road & should still be bright enough. I'll report back sometime, think i bought 6 bulbs. Single wire regulator is a good idea to save over-bright bulbs from blowing although you have the opposite issue at the mo.
