Whats Your Chain Lube of Choice.
What do you like, its probably like a oil thread but what the heck.
Since PJ1 Blue Label came out in the mid 70's I have never strayed, but today I ventured into my local Yamaha dealer I bought Maxima Chain Wax and cleaner. I mostly bought to help out the struggling business and its my favorite shop.
So fire away.

Yep, Chain wax! Good stuff on all, o- ring and standard. 16,000 miles on my Beemer f650gs chain and sprockets.

Whatever motor oil I have handy, applied with an old toothbrush to a pre-cleaned chain, and then excess oil removed with a rag. Hey, I'm a cheapskate when it comes to the price of specialty lubes for something as basic as chain and sprockets, or push pull cables.

I saw a youtube video which proved:ROFLOL that gear oil was the best! I use motor oil or the same chain wax as KennyV, whatever is handy. Pretty much use x or o-ring chains as soon as I figured out you didn't have to adjust your chain every day of riding with them.

One of my very cheap friends raved over used motor oil for chains back in the day before there was anywhere that would take used motor oil. The price was right!

For over 30 years I've been involved in the design and build of all kinds of industrial chain conveyors. For good chain life you simply need to reduce friction which creates heat, and prevent rust which binds up the links. Periodic cleaning helps.

When I was a kid, we used oil. It does fling off faster than the special stuff. I used to soak the chain in solvent and scrub it clean and then drop it in a pan of used motor oil when my Dad changed the oil and let it soak.

One of the old-time mechanics where my Dad worked showed me how he used to do it... he took a cooking pan and filled it with axle grease... then he heated the pan with a torch and a hot plate until the grease melted. Smoked like heck and smelled worse! Then he dropped my clean chain into the pan of melted grease and let it cool off. We fished the chain out and wiped off the excess grease. That actually worked really good!

You have explained exactly how Chain Wax is supposed to be applied. As per directions, apply when the chain is warm.

Land o' lakes butter and log cabin or aunt jemima syrup. it melts wonderfully and soaks up fine.

pj black and or chain wax. NOT FOR - Waffles or pancakes.
Although... I hear MODS do that for breakfast. dunno ....
