Screws Came Out of Speedometer Face was created by Slipkid
This is a personal first, but I bet it's happened to someone else before...
On my 1975 DT250, the internal screws that hold the face to the speedometer somehow managed to vibrate completely out. This has led to the face turning sideways, and the screws rattling around at the bottom of it. Not good...
I know these units are crimped together and not made to come apart.
If I could get it apart, it should be a pretty simple thing to remedy though.
So question is, can anyone relate the least painful/destructive method for getting the speedometer apart and back together?

These are my homemade "can opener" tools I made for opening up tachs and speedos. I first wrap several layers of masking tape to protect the chrome and then slowly and carefully start working the crimped edge open. I use an old worn out / worn smooth pair of pliers to carefully re- crimp. If you're not comfortable doing this you can always send it to DEET, he's the tach and speedo master!

The screws will cause damage. You can see the wear mark arcing accross the bottom of my gauge from a single screw dancing around for about 400 miles of riding.
I was on the second day of an enduro fest when it came out. I should have removed the tach for the duration of the trip.
Here are my tools . The screw driver has better leverage . I started with the paint can pry tool , it was ready to go.
I have since had to get into several gauges some more than once. Now I just crimp over 4 small sections to make it easy the next time. The rubber edge gaurd keeps the dust out quite well without a full crimp around.

Like Kenny and Yamahopper says it’s a slow process, and patients is a virtue.
the first one I did I neglected to put tape on the housing, scratched it but luckily the rubber piece covered my mistake.
Scroll to #160, and 164. Mine completely came apart.

Seems to me that there are instructions somewhere on the site. I took mine apart and repaired it, wasn’t too difficult.

Well, I got 'er done! No big deal really...
I just progressively pried around the edge of the bezel with a paint can opener until it was wide enough to slip off, reattached the screws with some Loc-tite, replaced the bezel, and re-crimped it with a set of pliers that I'd taped the jaws on.

Does anyone know where you can get the speedometer faceplate screws. I was assuming they would be floating around in the speedo but they are long gone.
Thanks !! Just wrapping my mind around my 74 DT 360.

Did you ever find the faceplate screws?
