dt100 front fender was created by unclejtl

can someone show me the difference between a 74 and a 78 dt100 front fender? I have searched the net and other than color, they look the same, but I can't find a side by side comparison.

thanks

Did the pre 1978 fender have these 'slats' in them? My guess is not.

CMSNL show this part as for the 1978 model only.

Pretty sure the vented fender is a newer model part that supersedes the original... at least I don't remember that style until later...

As far as the fender itself... Yamaha tended to keep many parts the same for as long as possible.

The 1974/1975 DT100 (125, 175 same part) front fender is 24.5 inches front to back and about 7.5 inches tall in the middle. I don't have a 1978 fender to measure.

In 1975 the front wheel is 19 inches but 1978 it is 18 inches, so they could have changed the fender size. Also 78 has a little mounting bracket for the fender while on 75 the fender directly bolts to the lower triple tree. That could have been added to change the fender angle for clearance with the shorter forks/wheelbase.

Possibly - I wouldn't put it past Yamaha!

All I would observe is that the fender I showed had a part number starting 2M5 (it's on the photo, but too small to read), which is the model code for a 1978 DT50 (European model), so the year does match up.
