Have an old boy a quick push away who can handle it thankfully
don't want to take the chance of more potential damage
I believe I've got the timing Bob on and it was running well prior to the most recent issues
would feel more confident having it checked

Be sure he knows it has an advancer as was one year only i think.
Should be obvious in the flywheel window though.

Can't fault your pics & video on previous page.
Good clear pics thanks.
Don't forget to put the arm back on the drum or you'll be going flatout in neutral.
I'm sure ya onto it.
What ate at the spacer?, was it just damage from the broken parts trying to escape.

sorry for the slightly rubbish pics its a little dark where am working on it currently
i have timed it with points opening when the flywheel mark lines up with the small tang end of coil
the points checker swings to open at this mark
am i right in thinking this correct?
however my dial gauge doesn't seem to correspond to this being 1.8mm BTDC , (unsure if its just a naff gauge though)

And what does the dial indicator say the timing is?

thanks again!
yes advance held open (found the float pin from an old carb is exact diameter required to fit into the hole to keep it open) it can be just about seen inthe second pic
didnt take the actual reading of the dial guage as i didnt have a great deal of time on it today i just noted it was more than the 1.8mm it was at least one full revolution more
(am taking it 1.8mm BTDC is one full revolution of the metric dial and around again to 80 mark)

Especially considering all the issues you're having, I'd carefully verify the tab and mark align at 1.8mm BTDC before trusting it. If it actually went another revolution you'd be way advanced.
You might also check the flywheel numbers against the service manual numbers. Kawasaki and other brands used a nearly identical flywheel by appearance anyway... I have one here somewhere and the key timing is different (along with the numbers stamped on the flywheel).

thanks yes
am getting some spurious readings from my point checker just now so will go back to the rizzla method and time to 1.8mm BTDC
as i calculate to be 1 full revolution on the metric dial and a further round to the 80 mark
have a bit more time with the bike tomorrow so will update after have had another go

ok sorted the odd reading with the point checker it was due i believe to added resistance as was using a tang to fit into the spade connector removed it and getting better readings now
one thing i have noted with the advance
there is a hole that lines up that you can insert a probe to keep it open however there is travel on the advance beyond that which does alter the timing positions on the dial if held wide open, like as far as it travels
have timed it to the probe in the hole method fired nd no kick back and running quite a bit of smoke at first but settled down to a nice idle, didn;t feel like it was revving out completely so some fettling still to be done
