Hi everyone,
I recently replaced my stator with one from a '77 model which has two main difference from the '74. It incorporates a neutral switch and removes the wire for "daytime" lighting. Can someone explain to me how to properly use the one lighting wire from my new stator (yellow) and connect it to my light switch so that the lights just remain on at all times? Hoping this is possible rather than running a second wire from that coil somehow or is it easier just to replace the switch with one that doesn't include the lighting option. Also planning to just scrap the Neutral switch wire as my bike isn't compatible.

First thing is you must run a regulator or you'll be blowing bulbs. Later stators had more output and need regulators. Follow instructions in Yamaha Service Bulletin and connect to blue feeding instrument illumination lights.
Other than that, you can simply connect yellow to yellow and single green to both greens. Then just leave headlight switch on. (if you turn headlight switch off battery will get a higher charge but should be okay... I've done it.)
Or you can rewire bike and replace switches with parts from newer models so headlight is on all the time... still must have regulator though.

So I got the new stator installed and connected the wiring as you had mentioned previously. Was rooting through some of the parts that came with the bike and noticed a regulator. Looks to me like the p/o may tried to do the 6v-12v conversion kit from Rex's and that's what this regulator rectifier is from. So is it safe to use this with the stator I installed and just used 12V battery instead of a 6V? Thanks!
