Picture Attachment problem (09 Jul 2022)

Due to the extraordinary growth of the membership and resources, we are once again bumping up against hosting limits. I am working on a fix. In the meantime, the forum should function, but you won’t be able to attach images. Working as fast s we can to fix. Thanks for your patience. - Makotosun

Hey guys, new to this forum and these older Yamaha's. Just started to tear down my new to me 1975 DT-400 Enduro. Search feature on here isn't the easiest to navigate and was about 11 pages deep before I decided to make this post. Can anyone guide me to the service manual for this unit. Thanks in advance and wish me luck!

Awesome, thanks for help with the search. Much appreciated. I am from New Jersey, but not the armpit section, lol. Bummer pics can't be uploaded right now, I'd like to document my progress. So far engine is out, cylinder is off and I will clearly need a rebore, piston, etc.

That is an old message, pics can now be uploaded, but see my link below regarding how (give me a few mins to do this).

Edit - can't find the thread I was looking for!

So, use "Attachments" button below to add photos (max 5 per post, I think). Once you've done this, make sure that the cursor is where you want the photos to appear (usually after the last piece of text). Then insert each photo individually - ie don't use the "insert all" button (this will duplicate everything). Finally, press "Submit".

do not kick it over until you remove the flywheel and clean all the debris from the stator and flywheel.  You will damage the pulser and thats a whole new problem.

Welcome from NZ. Damage doesn't look pretty. Wonder what's been going on, no oil or been thrashed to the point of melting. Bummer. I guess the bottom end aint good either. Time to go "in". Any questions just ask.

Welcome - from another DT400 owner in NJ (well, philly/south jersey). This site has helped immensely during my rebuild.
One trick I've used to find old relevant forum posts is to use google. For instance, id search "dt400 progressive site:https://www.yamaha-enduros.com/" and found MAKOTOSUN's shock installation & review thread within the first couple results. Which is exactly what I was looking for. Whereas that post is somewhat buried when looking in the site's Search feature. Not saying one is better than the other, but when I have a question, I try both methods!

Good luck with the bike!
