Thank you both very much.
But for my general understanding:
Can somebody please describe to me, what "shunting" means ? Couldn´t find any translation not linked with railroads. Is this the issue with sputtering at constant cruising speed ?
Courious about the answer

From my point of view i was talking about rich blubbery running accelerating slowly up from idle through to about half throttle untill she's properly on the main jet.
But possibly the poster is talking about firing on a closed throttle while slowing down & early 360's were bad for that, slowing down for a corner or to stop & it goes 'bang & fires' which is annoying when you're enjoying a quiet slow down.
Only my thoughts & OP hopefully will clear up any confussion i've caused on that

"There's been many posts on this subject and how to improve it. I've done some of it on my 76 400 and it has improved it to a point, I need to do more but am having issues with the engine itself that I need to find someone competent enough to go through it and hopefully find the issue since it's beyond my expertise. I did save all the suggestions in a word document that's 2 pages long, if you'd like it send me an e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots. Glad you're safe and back posting again, Tony.

Shunting. When I see that word being used, it refers to things with electricity. Too much amps/voltage and the circuit breaker trips the breaker, meaning, the power was directed/diverted to ground and kills the power.
I know what RT325 is saying about “slowing down” and getting that hiccup from from the engine… Why that happens I don’t know, but I find pulling in the clutch lever when slowing is what I do, unless you really need to stop quickly…
Ya just gotta love these old bikes! (:

RT325, you hit the point, needle and needle jet must wear tremendously at our bikes. I took a ride with both parts brand new from Mikuni - what a game-changer !!!.
Kept the same settings (neddle 3rd ring, 40 idle jet, 160 main and air screw 1 turn out). What a difference .
Must say i am 95% done with fine tuning, now.
Almost zero "shunting" while releasing the throttle. Also much better on constant cruising speed.

Must say, i didnt pay much attention to what P.Wells stated about new needle and needle Jet, as mine looked perfect. They have absolutely no signs of wear, hole perfect round. Now i know, they were completely worn
I will directly order a spare set
