DT360 CDI box rebuild was created by Willholmania

Hi. Has anyone ever rebuilt one of these things? Seems mine is cooked and before I dip it in acetone it'd be nice to know the value of the components inside, in case the solvent destroys the markings on those components.

Hello Willholmania , I have same bike . 74 DT360 Spent a lot of time trying to get the original CDI to work
A dip in acetone would probably be the best thing to do with it.

I would love to see someone rebuild the CDI box and/or the pulser coil.  I'm having a weird surging problem with my recently rebuilt DT 360 and after trying just about everything I can think of to fix it the problem remains. I'm thinking at this point the problem lies somewhere in the ignition system even though everything testable falls within specs.  I struggle with simple wireing so gadgets with diodes, resisters and such are way out of my ball park but I know that there are folks out there that are capable of building all kinds of complex electronic gizmos so I've long wondered if anyone had attempted to put together the CDI box or of special interest to me, the pulser coil which appears to be impossible to find anywhere at any price. If you do attempt the CDI box I hope you'll let us follow along. Good luck with this endeavor Willholmania!

You will be wasting your time trying to un-pot the components and duplicate it.
No solvent that I know of will dissolve the potting compound.
Picking it out is the only way I know of to remove it and it also removes the information printed on the components.

We tried this maybe 15 years ago with no success on the other forum.

Hey guys.  Interesting topic.  I would love to know what’s inside these old CDI boxes.

I’ve seen some videos on youtube where they use boiling water to soften the epoxy to make it easier to remove and hopefully not remove the markings on the components.

DEET, did they try the boiling water method 15 years ago?

I’ve not heard of trying boiling water. I haven’t looked at the potting compound yet but it’s helpful to know that acetone won’t work.
