Is Primary drive gear left hand thread? was created by AirborneSilva

Hey guys, after watching a couple of videos on replacing cranck seal they all said the primary drive gear is left hand thread but looking in the service manual they don't mention it at all, so, on my 76 DT400 is that also a left hand thread?  Thank you, Tony

Nope, just normal RH thread. Lefty loosey Righty Tighty directions.

Thank you! I didn't want to be tightening it and screw it up thinking I was taking it off.

Any tips or tricks to hold the shaft while removing the nut?

The shop manual says to fold a rag several times then wedge it between the gears, I figured I'd give that a try, wish me luck

I just trap a piece of alloy in between the gears. Just a piece of old number plate--registration plate in my case. If you had a half inch drive rattle gun & whatever size '30mm i think' socket it'll probably come off just holding the clutch basket by hand to put a bit of resistance on it. Just my ideas.

Ok thanks for the ideas. If holding the clutch basket I’d wear a heavy pair of gloves as the gear reduction delivers quite a bit of torque to the basket.
