can it be done? 78+ cylinder on 74 DT175 was created by TDHoward
Basically can it be done?
What needs to be modified?
I see lots of "Cylinder kits" for 78 forward bikes, but seems like jugs for DT175 A-B-C are rare as hens teeth.
I realize the newer style has a 6 bolt head, but seems like the jug is essentially the same with 4 studs down.
I guess I'm asking whether I can buy an entirely new top end, Or am I stuck tracking down parts for an overbore?
TIA

Short answer No. Compare base gaskets & stud hole spacing in links below.

Anything "can" be done with enough time and money. As RT325 implied, it certainly would not be a simple swap... aluminum welding and precision machine work would be required.
The other thing is the later cylinder kits I've seen are cheap copies and likely of dubious quality. I wouldn't even use one on a 78 on unless I was really desperate.

One more thing... the earlier CT2 and CT3 will bolt on. You probably would want a matching CT head too as the fin shape changed in 74.
1976 cylinder is also a little different... no longer has the oil injection port at the base of the cylinder as port was moved to carb. Head shape changed a little too I think so again if going with 1976 you might want a matching head.
74-75 cylinder and head are the same.
Getting yours bored is likely the best option. Enduronut can help you if you have trouble finding a piston kit.
