Hi, I ended up installing a Rex`s speed shop 12v ignition. After initial problems, it was delivered to the wrong address, the three threads for mounting the stator were butchered with the most amateur installation of helicoils ever, I have it installed and was pretty impressed by the wiring being matched to the original harness, didn't need to bodge any connectors at all, I am ready to start up. It has new top end and oil pump, pretty keen to get it going but I didn't realise when I bought a battery eliminator locally that Rex`s have in the small print a warning that you need their exact eliminator. I cannot find a battery to fit the tiny space. I have now ordered the Rex eliminator but it takes so frickin long to ship here I am going to be sorely tempted to start it with the eliminator I have. What are your thoughts on this?

I'm totaly guessing here, but i 'guess' that if you 'don't run the lights' or better still don't even connect them then i can't see a problem. Just have the CDI hooked up to run the motor & leave the rest. Now only knowing what i've read on here does yours have a keyway in the flywheel or do you need to time it & do that damn nut up 'super tight' with an undamaged crank taper?. Gotta be tight regardless of key or no key of course. Look forward to hearing good results & prepaired to be shot down in flames if i'm steering you wrong.

Did you ever get the battery eliminator? I have a 76 DT400 that I just did a 12 volt conversion on and like you I too am having issues finding a battery to fit. I was thinking of going with Rex's eliminator too so I'm curious to hear how it worked out for you. Thanks, Tony
