Gear Slippage was created by Jpilato820

Hey all! I’ve got an Enduro 1974 125. Recently the tachometer stopped working and now when I shift from first to second I get stuck in neutral and have to shift back down to first and really slam the shifter up to get into second and sometimes that doesn’t work I just end up back in neutral. There’s a lot of play in the shifter when its in neutral, it sort of flops around, I don’t know if that’s normal. Shifting between other gears is a cinch but between first and second I keep having trouble which is tough because it stops traffic for anyone behind me lol. Any advice about where to start would be helpful!

Unfortunately I think you need to take the clutch cover and clutch off to see what's going on with the very cool ratchet mechanism that works the pins on the shifter drum. Perhaps one of the tits that work the gears is rounded off, or maybe you luck out and you can get things working properly with an adjustment. I recently had similar issue with my DT360

I think the shift shaft might be stripped, the shifter itself is flopping around so I’m going to start there! Is taking the clutch cover off and fooling around down there something a rookie could do or would you recommend seeking out help?

What country are you in?

Does your 125 have a 12 volt battery and electric start?

Depending on what shape motor, DT125A i think, have a short shaft leading into a mechanism below the sprocket that gets dry & rusty as only has grease in it. The log shaft starts from there & heads through the other side. Does sound like problems in the clutch side behind the clutch though. Short shaft is obvious with a 4 screw plate just by the sprocket if that type. DT175A wouls have that for sure.
