DT360 Salvageable was created by jerryd68

I have 1974 DT360, the motor was locked up on in it, I thought maybe it was the piston, after a large fight between me and the cylinder head I found that the piston/cylinder was ok. I next focused my attention on the flywheel, I was able to remove it and that freed the motor up. I have attached a few pics, is she scrap?

In regards to your flywheel, I would try soaking it in Evaporust... I used it with luck to clean flywheels before... The experts will chime in on your cylinder

Bit of a cleanup & she'll be running by lunch time. Love jobs like that. Do the stator coils look intact.

The coils look complete, nasty but complete. I will purchase some Evaporust for the flywheel. Any other suggestions?

Most of us here look at this and love this stuff to work on, it is not all that bad and easy to get her going. Sure, it will keep you busy for a bit, but you will ride it real soon.
If the stator scares you, you can always send it to member DEET here for a total rebuild. Excellent work from him and he is my " Go To Guy" for all things stator related.
Feel free to look in the Tech Library and download your bike's Service Manual . Great info there.

Definitely not scrap but a quick and fun project. Make sure to buy NEW brake shoes before you ride it. Even if they look good, they can De-laminate and either pitch you over the bars or lock up the rear tire . And NOBODY wants to visit a hospital . ever.
OR push a bike 3 or more miles with a wheel that won't turn .
Don't be scared Jerry, this is easy stuff. Chime in often, ask a ton of questions, Take a bunch of pictures to show us , problems or not.
We are all here to help you ride that Big Dog !!

Sometimes it's best to not disturb them anymore than you need to. Blow the stator coils to get dust outa there & wipe the magnets & coil poles--umm--maybe more than a wipe--i just bought up your flywheel pic. Gosh & now the stator pic. Forget my ideas lol.

We have good luck with these..

Just make sure you strain the paint with a proper filter.

I’ll second the harbor freight guns. That’s all my brother has used.
