Dt 360 oil pump sticking was created by treeves

I am working on finishing putting my bike back together. I have put a new throttle and oil pump cable on and if I twist throttle wide open the oil pump sticks wide open or I can turn the wheel the cable is attached to and will stick in full open position. Is there something that would cause it to stick on outside of pump or do I need to send to Deet for a rebuild?

Is the return spring on the pump shaft present and working? I haven’t had one be sticky like that but maybe others here will chime in. DEET has done various things for me and I’ll be running a pump rebuilt by him on my 71 360 here shortly.

yes spring is on pump and works perfect until wide open. I can just touch the wheel and it will return to idle position.

Just saying...I've taken pumps apart before for rebuilds and found the spring broken. You may want to check for that.

Make sure there isn't any grit/dirt in there to cause it sticking. Maybe flood it with WD/Kroil/whatever and work it back & forth a bit. And even though you have a new cable, maybe make sure that moves nice and easy?

I had the motor out of the frame for a few months and during that time I had the oil pump cover off. I think in working on the engine, turning it over something pushed the spring in. I have a DT 250 I bought to swap some parts and help with putting my bike back together, I looked at that pump and the spring was further out than mine so I pulled my spring out a little and is working like it should. I have flooded the area with WD 40 thinking dirt was my problem but did not help. Thanks for all the advice.
