Alan I feel like we're gonna get told off for thread hijack!
I have never hear of an Allegro being compared to my beautiful scirocco before.
I had three of them when I was 19-21 years old.
My original in platinum metallic, a donor car and then my mate gave me his bronze one.
I'd love one now but they're crazy money.

Thanks for the input everyone, I really appreciate it! I have a few things to check out now.
If it turns out that the carbs are toast, do you know if any company makes replacement carbs that will fit this bike? Or would I just have to find used ones that appear to be in good condition?
