To all of you helpful people Thank you!
I have a set of matching engine and frame numbers which show the bike as UK 1977 DT175 but i do not have a V5 certificate, so which form should i fill in to apply for this? Since i used to have several "historic bikes i understand the MOT and No tax factors, but have never had a bike without a DVLA V5. Do i need to apply to an historic vehicle club to prove what my bike is before i apply to DVLA?
Appreciate the help so far and hope someone can help :)

I appreciate that you have no V5, but do you know, or can you find out, what the registration number is?

Conflicting info coming out of DVLA at the moment about whether or not they will issue a replacement V5 based on the frame number - it might be a question of who you deal with there.

Anyway, I'll wait for your answer first before adding anything further.

Great Uncle Al Thank you for coming back to me. I have no idea of a registration number since i bought a half built bike with only the frame/engine numbers being present. I intend to rebuild the bike and use as a run around since lightweightand im beginning to feel my age!! The previous two ebay sellers lso have NO knowledge of any number plate so i feel i will have to start from scratch, which must be possible since people build choppers and one offs every day, its just knowing which paperwork to fill in and not waste time tooing and frooing!!

OK.

Let me contact a couple of chaps and get back to you.

Bear in mind what Simon (Mauser) says about the outside chance of it having been nicked (although if it was, and the original owner claimed on insurance and didn't want it back, they might give you a reg number! :ROFLOL )

You managed to speak to them?! I should do the lottery today as well then, whilst your luck's in!:ROFLOL Or are you a "Key Worker" maybe (I've heard that those are the only people that DVLA will speak to)?

V62 was the form that I was going to suggest, but still waiting to hear back from my two contacts.

Would you mind posting here the details (name, address etc) of the specialist team? :likey

Simon,
I rang the number shown on the online form for V62 which was 0300 790 6802 and spoke with a lovely lady who gave me the team address to make it simpler and advised what to write on the form!! Excellent service. Maybe since they have to operate more like a business they have improved, although from experience it has not trickled down to the Land registry who are a pain!!

The Team are :V.I.Team, DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1DD and the lady i spoke to suggested a covering letter explaining what you wish to do and in my case to print along the top of the form NO VRM only Chassis.

Thanks for that.

As is the case in a lot of big organisations, it looks like it depends on who you get through to - the YTS person (showing my age there!) or someone who knows what they're doing.

I had a similar situation with a RD125DX frame that I acquired without a registration number. When I spoke to DVLA in February (ie pre lockdown), the bloke gave me the same instructions that you have just been given. By the way, he said send a SORN request in at the same time. However, the bloke that I sold the frame to was told that DVLA would no longer issue replacement V5s based on frame number only.

When you quote the frame number, give them every permutation that you can - ie with the first 3 characters and without, with the hyphen and without etc. DVLA records will be based on what info the original dealer who sold the bike when new gave them, and these weren't consistent! A bloke on the aircooledrd forum has just noticed that the first character of the frame number shown on his log book is an "S" instead of a "5"! :EEEK :EEEK :EEEK He's worried about raising it as an issue now in case it leads to other problems.

Don't forget to post how you get on.
