Engine number was created by Stu Mc

Please could somebody inform me as a new owner of a DT175 what year is the number * 1G1- 100182* and how the engine is able to run without an oil tank or pump? has it been converted to run on premix 2 stroke? thus not requiring the oil tank?
Anybodies input would be helpful.

Welcome! from Salisbury Stuart.

I'm guessing you're UK as well? 1G1 is 1976 and 1977 European model DT175.

If there is no oil pump or two stroke oil tank present then yes, I would imagine it's been run on pre-mix.

What are your plans for the engine/bike?

Thank you and yes i live in Bournemouth. I will change my user name as soon as i can work out how!! The bike is incomplete and heading towards a Bobber style but needs registering and making road worthy since no lights/horn/number plate. Looking for a reasonable front mudguard in metal to make usable and need tolook to sortrear so i can attached plate and lights!!

Welcome!

UK VIN table in the Tech Library here says it's a 1977... and yes, don't forget to premix if pump/tank is missing.

Thank you for your input, what other than a number plate makes it a legal day time bike please? Also do I need to go to Yamaha to register or just apply to DVLA?

Morning Stuart.

What do you mean by "register"?

There should be an existing registration number linked to the frame/VIN number - do you have this and/or the V5 logbook?

If the frame is the same age as the engine, then the tax status should be changed to "Historic Vehicle" and no tax is due - has this been done yet?

There will be no MoT due either, so I'd be pretty sure that you can ride it on the road without lights now anyway (previously you would have applied for a daylight only MoT).

There are a few other details, forms and procedures that I haven't given you yet, but I'll await your answers to the above first! :likey

Evening Simon.

Pretty sure there was such a thing at some time, if not still relevant. See link below.

Just to confirm, mauser and I are talking about the same thing.

There is no separate document for a "Daylight" MoT, rather the tester can put whatever comments he/she likes about lights not being present at the time of test in the Advisories box on the form. Colloquially, this is known as a "Daytime" MoT and is what I was referring to.
