Lots of analog models to choose from... I have a couple Simpson meters, they are very good.

Just make sure whatever you get has an "R x 1" ohms scale (not to be confused with "R x 1k") for setting the points. Some cheaper ones only go down to a "R x 10" scale.

Searching eBay for "analog multimeter" will come up with thousands of choices.

There is what is advertised to be a Yamaha Pocket Tester for sale in the UK...

If you just need one to set the points, I used a test light with a 12 volt tail light bulb in it and powered it off of the battery. The light will dim when the points open, but does not go off completely. I have used my digital meter for everything else.

I'm trying to take in a bunch of info (new to me) and I read somewhere the magneto or something interferes with the digital reading...maybe its all readings.

Thanks for the lead Mark and I've actually bought it!

Not sure if I overpaid at £40 inc p+p, but I do know that CMSNL are asking over £120 MORE than that for one.

Well I get the yamaha pocket tester and this is what I find when I go to check if it takes batteries....

I'm guessing it was supposed to take two batteries and to was altered and then had a little fire. smh. idk. Some people really suck some times.
