Will a 5.75" lens fit in a DT360A headlight housing?

My 6V 35/35W headlight burned out and new ones seem to be as rare as hens teeth or ridiculously priced. I measured the OEM lens and it is ~5.6". The housing would seem to allow for a 5.75" lens but has anyone actually tried this?

If it does fit I see Hella and others make a conversion kit that would hold a replaceable bulb, like an H4 476A, something I'd rather use instead of the hard to find sealed beam. Thanks in advance.

Hi there
I can't answer your question on whether the 5.75" will fit but I recently put a post up about retro-fitting a H4 lamp into the original sealed unit.
It wasn't particularly difficult.
Here's a link if you want to take a look at the method and some photos.

All the best.

To prevent a new one burning out/blowing, maybe retro fit a 6v voltage regulator - see link below.

Some folks say they get the same result as fitting a regulator by fitting a 12v headlight bulb, but I can't vouch for this.

I could be wrong but I think the RT1 and DT360 have different style headlamps. Mine is a sealed unit, there is no bulb to remove. I suppose I could use some kind of glass cutter to hack a hole on the back to make a mount for a bulb to insert, but that would be extremely tricky. Like making a large hole in a light bulb. I think I am going to go with the retrofit 5.75" lens since Mark T says it will fit and my measurements seem to indicate that. The idea of using a 12V lens is also helpful, probably can't be any dimmer than the 6V lamp was and has a greater tolerance for higher voltage spikes. Thanks all, this has been very helpful.

Did you read the link I sent with the pictures explaining how to retro-fit into the sealed unit?
You keep everything original, the only new part is a H4 lamp.

I am at a loss as to how I would be able to put a fitting or bulb into this unit on the DT360. It's one big sealed lens, no way to open.

Yes, different type of sealed beam headlight.

Pete's, and the one on my RT2, can be prised open and the bulb removed (after breaking it).

Ha Ha! Now I understand.
A picture gives a lot more info.
Also, I don't know what the beam is like on mine yet as I've got the bike in bits, so probably shouldn't be telling people to try that method until I've proved the beam spread is ok.
Hope you get it sorted out.

I thought about dealing with the hassle of opening a sealed beam unit to replace the bulb (74 DT250), but in the end I just bought an empty 5 3/4" bucket. Then you can use whatever bulb you want.
