Introduction to my Yamaha DT250B was created by Crowbar

Hello, My name is Carter and I have recently obtained a DT250B. The bike needs a lot of work so the first thing I wanted to start off with is a new carb. It's been leaking and needs to be rebuilt, I have seen some that are brand new for about $40 (Saw it on eBay). Is it worthwhile to buy a new Carb or just to rebuild the one I currently have?

We are going to send the oil pump to Deet for a rebuild, fuel tank also needs to be resealed, rear brakes need some adjusting. Other than that it runs great!
I am hoping that I can get the bike repainted once the mechanical needs are finished.

Brand new for $40 is probably a China clone, jetting and quality control can be all over the place. The OEM mikuni are high quality and worth rebuilding. If you get a keyster or similar kit, a good rule of thumb is to ignore the metal parts of the kit, gaskets are fine to use - stick with genuine mikuni jets.

Keep and rebuild the original one if it all possible. I'm sure others will chime in with their opinion....Oh ya pictures of bike please

Welcome!

I agree with others, probably a Chinese clone. I had a friend try one on his Honda and chased his tail trying to get it jetted, the build quality was really poor too. In the end he ended up putting a stock carb on it and it's fine now. Rebuilding the stock carb isn't that expensive even with genuine mikuni parts. JetsRUs.com is a good resource for genuine carb parts. As previously mentioned, the Keyster kits are OK for the gaskets but avoid their brass bits.

Edit: And we love pics around here...
