Is this turning into similar to an oil thread haha.
Is it true ethanol fuel rots out your jets, i never knew that.
I've had our modern unleaded pump gas make a terrible mess & block jets up when left forgotten for a year with a carb full of fuel.
Each one would be twostroke mix just thinking so not sure if the oil makes a difference.
But i had a car petrol fuel pump 'VW v6 that sits immersed in the tank which was parked for 4 years & was blocked solid with stale residue.

RT325, ethanol itself doesn't hurt the jets. E5 or E10 is actually better than "straight" gas in that the ethanol component can absorb some water and that water will burn harmlessly rather than pool on the bottom of the tank.

The problem arises when E5 or E10 sits in the carb during storage with some water in it... acids can form. It's those acids that attack the jets.

Ethanol is also a great solvent and will dissolve old gummy (or even rock hard) gasoline deposits.

I have a water methanol injection kit on my supercharged Challenger, the manufacturer of the system say that it increases my 93 octane fuel to 116 octane. When the system kicks in at the 3lbs boost I have it set at you can really feel the difference. I'm not too sure how methanol and the crap they put in our gas differ but I do know that top alcohol dragsters use methanol to make their power.

Don't know if that really adds to the discussion but thought I'd put that out there...

"My DT-175G will wheelie on command in 1st and 2nd gear, and if you are not careful and have your toe on the rear brake, it can easily loop when the powerband hits at 5K".

Sorry.  But no.  I have rose tinted spectacles over the DT175 to the point in spending insane amounts of money trying to make one as brand new again.

I had a 1980 DT175mx brand new.  I spent most of my spare time riding off road, competed in both trials and motocross events and was regarded as a fairly experienced off roader, well versed in hoiking the front wheel off the floor.

Even with my rose tinted specs, back then a new bike, 9.5stone weight wet through, and a lot of off road experience, there is no way would a DT175 ever threaten to loop off the throttle.  Mine would manage a front wheel a foot off the floor in second if sat at the back of the seat and two feet after bouncing the forks and pulling mightily on the bars.

Please keep your comments real.  People are genuinely trying to assess shortcomings in performance and comments like this are not helping.

One of the many reasons its a good idea to avoid ethanol type fuels if at all possible is phase separation:
petroclear.com/resources/dont-be-phased.php

This is something that can destroy carbs and fuel tanks, if measures are not taken to avoid damage.

I had a brand new 1980 DT175 as well. It was a VERY mundane thing, and certainly dont remember it being able to wheelie......................lol
