New to me RT3 was created by Schu
Well since I have been unable to sell my 2017 SCR950 I decided to trade it instead. There is a Vintage/Antique Motorcycle dealership not far from my house. They now own my SCR and I now own this RT3 along with a $400 credit for any used parts I need for my collection. It’s a pretty well run operation called Flashback Enterprises. They have a huge eBay store and I have bought parts from them for several years.
The attached link should allow you to scroll thru a ton of photos that they had on their website. They are better photos than I could take so I decided to share them with you all. I’m interested in any tidbits you might have for me after reviewing the photos. I have thick skin so you won’t offend me by pointing out things that are wrong or messed up. It runs and rides good. No top end noise like many of my other bikes. Shifts thru the gears fine. I didn’t bother with checking if lights and indicators were working properly. The only issues so far are a leaking petcock and a broken cylinder fin down low at the base.
What I like about the bike is that it is unrestored but yet it is pretty dang clean. imgur.com/a/cHZ5259

Looks like a nice, original unmolested bike - nice find.

Looks nice! Don't forget to hook up the voltage regulator to the blue wire in the headlight if it doesn't have tsb m5-084 addressed.

Thanks pahiker. I’ve added that to my new list. I straightened the heat shield as my first task. It was driving me nuts! Easy fix.
Can you give me a brief rundown on the proper way to use the manual decompression lever? My other big bore bikes all have the automatic release. I assume you actuate the lever, bring it up on compression, and give it a good swat as you simultaneously return the lever to its normal position. Yes-No?
This thing has wicked compression without using the lever.

You don't need to close the original release quickly as you're kicking or anything... you can even ride around with the lever pulled... Normally you just close the release after engine starts.

Huh. Thanks Mark. I assumed that if you pulled the while running it would do the big phooph noise that I recall hearing from bikes long ago.

I have made modifications to the 360s I have. As I get older they are more difficult to start. Installed the HD Screaming Eagle decompression valve in the spare spark plug hole and replaced the head gasket with one that is 2.5 times the thickness. Much easier but not quite as easy as a 250. The factory decompression valve is not much of a reduction plus it is prone to getting clogged. I also have a NOS cylinder with the larger hole for the decomp valve from the '74 360 but have not installed it yet on any of my riders.
I also have a 2017 SCR950. I replaced the footpegs and controls from a Bolt. Riding position fits and feels like an Enduro but much heavier.

The hours spent riding my Enduros is not deducted from my life span.

And I’ll assume you see the battery isnt in the photos but was installed before you rode it?
I do sometimes forget to return the decomp lever on my RT2. I can’t really tell if it’s doing anything anyways. I like the idea of the screaming eagle decomp…

No battery for the ride. Actually, I think the only bike of mine with a good battery is the DT125B and that’s because it won’t run right without it.

I like those suggestions from 1971DT250 as well.

Cool bike, Schu. I have it's little brother, the 250. Mine was in a little worse condition, but everything but turn signals was there. I did a lot of minor things, like repainting the kickstand and rear brake lever. And treated a lot of stuff with Evaporust. Surprising what a difference the minor touches can make. I had an old Yamaha mechanic do my fork seals and decided to clean up the fork sliders and give them fresh clear coat. That made a big appearance difference. The biggest change I made was going to a high front fender. I never liked the low fenders. Made a simple aluminum bracket, found a repro 74 YZ fender, painted it, put a stripe on it, and installed. I'm sure the purists hate it, but I like it.
