clutch disengament problem was created by richrd

I'm back with the dreaded "free bike",   it's titled as a 72 dt250,   (vin dt1f...............).    frame tag says it was built december of 71.

the new problem has to do with the "push lever assembly" or the throw out mechanism the cable attaches to.  The plastic insert has cracked. (surprise) and I bought a brass replacement off the evil bay.  Of course it appears to be not right.  The mechanism just spins around it as the hole is too big.  Right now I'm trying some loctite bearing mount.

I have the bike sold, (for nothing) and I have two weeks to fix this.  Any tricks or tips?

Thanks
Richj

Lots of people have successfully used the brass worm gear.  Have you tried contacting the vendor?

(If you bought from KDI, Dave has always been good to work with.)

I’ll second KDI. Mine works perfect.

Few pics of what's going on would be good just to be sure we're all on the same page.
I've not used one yet but i assume you peel off the split plastic worm & press--vice squeeze--on the new piece but must have it in the right starting place.
Anyway that info doesn't work if its turning inside the new part.

The brass piece I bought from KDI worked perfectly for my DT2. I wonder if you didn't get yours from KDI as well, Dave does sell his parts on e-bay. One thing you want to make sure you do is to mark the orientation of the plastic piece before you remove it.

I just looked on ebay and after years of having to find a good used actuator and a brief period of a very expensive assembly, KDI came up with an affordable quality solution and now there are DOZENS of "knockoff" brass/bronze clutch worm gears for sale for the DT/RT Yamahas.

KDI looks to be the lowest price at $21.95 shipped...  but for some reason even if you sort by "Price + Shipping lowest" the ORIGINAL and PROVEN KDI version shows up way down the list below higher priced options.

What a bunch of crap.  KDI has developed and produced a lot of great parts for us.  Please support them whenever you can.

This popped up but guess you've all seen it.
Looks like a DT2MX cover but same horse.
Personaly i'd fit it just a fraction further around from where he lines it up to press on but probably only talking a mm or two at the worm so the arm when in the case starts from slightly lower down.
Just my opinion, but go too far down with the arm & the little helper spring won't get stretched, not that it's much use anyway--that spring.
Spring not shown in the video but no matter.
I see it rolled into the next Video so save his page & check the other yamaha vids which could be very helpful.
Man i'd love his workshop & love how he does his videos.
Looks like you have to play it on youtube to go to his other videos!!

I doubt that Loctite is going to fix your problem if the gear fits that loose on the shaft.
Could be that the shaft if screwed up also. The gear I got from Dave was a press fit.

I did not know about kdi at the time. I may order one and give it to the kid that buys the bike. Loctite stud and bearing is some mean stuff, I give it at least a %51 chance of working.

thanks
