source for clutch friction/steel plates was created by AirborneSilva

Hi all, am in need of clutch friction/steel plates and was wondering if there was a better source than the stock parts you get from Partzilla and the like.  I've seen non-stock clutches mentioned here before and were recommended but can't remember the brand.  As always, thanks for the help!  Tony

I’m pretty much a stickler for keeping my bikes all Yamaha…but after experiencing some slight slippage on a DT 400 and RT 360 both with new steels and frictions, I’m using Barnett frictions with the stock steels now and no slipping on those bikes. I’ll probably continue that way on future builds. Just how I’m doing it.

Oh..I get everything from EBay.

I had to go to Barnette's website to find clutch plates, the thing that is confusing me now (yeah confusion happens all the time

), it says I need 6 fiber plates and 7 steel plates.  That doesn't make sense, shouldn't it be 5 steel plates because you start with a fiber and end with a fiber with steel between...

Though i dont have a source i will say that i rebuilt my 73 RT360 clutch using a clutch kit that is for the Yamaha warrior/raptor quads. Steel plates were exactly the same, the fibers however had one slight difference which was the width of the little "tabs" that stick up other then that the diameter and thickness was spot on. I used a small sanding wheel to file those down a little and the clutch does work! however you cant use the springs that come with the kit because they are way longer. Im using the stock springs and need to replace them which i believe is the cause of my bit of slippage.
I bought the kit because it was way cheaper then buying the plates individually and i wanted to see if i could successfully do it and if so share it here however winter came and ive put that bike on hold until spring.

Thanks Enduro Nut.  I think I'm going to get the barnette friction plates and steel from Partzilla along with new springs.

Yes I forgot to mention those springs…Barnett heavy duty. I believe they are 39 mm long whereas stock Yamaha are 36. For the quantity buy the same as Yamaha calls for. I think the first steel on is thicker too so a different part number (unless I’m getting my bikes mixed up). Buy the quantity in the Yamaha service manual. Barnett doesn’t require changing the quantity of anything. Good luck, you’ll like um.

Assuming no one has changed the clutch pack (maybe that's why it wont move when clutch is let out), I'm going to pull it apart and replace with how many friction and steel plates are there and in the same order...
