Round Thing on bottom of Triple Tree? was created by landyr67g
Hello - I am looking at a triple tree for sale but not sure if it is a CT or an early DT175. There is no "boss" to mount a high fender, but there is a round aluminum sandwich thing (held together with screws) on bottom of triple tree. Anyone know what that is?
Thanks,
Joe
Thanks,
Joe

Does it look like this?
It's a steering damper. I'm no expert but I think they were on the CT175's but I don't think they were on the DT175's

Got one on my CT-2. A steering damper, as the man said. Holds oil and has a wiper inside which slows the flow of oil from one side to the other. Sort of like a horizontal shock absorber. Not sur eit does a hellova lot; I don't notice much difference in that and the 2 CT-1C's I have that do not have the damper.

At leasr some of the CT1's (maybe all) had the mounting points for the damper so one can be installed. Didn't come with it though.

So does that mean my CT-2 is the Chevelle Super Sport model?

Ok, egg on face & grovel time for me. Learning curve. I was near my shed so went & crawled over junk in the semi light & felt around my AT1 lower triple & damn it it's got a spline & lug on the frame. Crawled around shed 2 & came up with damper & it fits!!. Learn something new every day around here. On my 360 'one of them' i changed the oil in the damper for some heavy diff oil & wobbled off down the road like a beginner because it damped so heavily. I' threaded the hole right through on the stem so it was located more direct & solid than the pin on the end of the locating screw. Took it off & left it off but would try it again if i was racing vmx.

For whatever reason, I'm pretty sure damper came standard on the AT/CT in 72/73. Not sure why the earlier AT-CT models didn't have them
