DT2 carb choke lever was created by Oldskoole

I’ve got a sweet running DT2. Always cranks on the 3rd kick, cold. Here’s my question, you have to hold the choke lever down and hold it down to crank it. It won’t stay pushed down. Is this normal? If not, what’s the fix? Thanks in advance for the help!

Perhaps you lost the tiny ball bearing and/or backing spring that creats a detent or stop in the choke lever arm. If so, they can be found.

......or perhaps the hold-down screw that secures the choke arm just needs to be tightened.

There is a piece of springy steel that is bolted under the choke plunger nut...  pushing the lever down makes a bump on the lever go over a bump on the spring steel arm.

View from front of carb,
arrow points to "spring steel thingy" (yes, I believe that is the official name)

The most common things are someone puts the spring steel on incorrectly, it's missing, or the easy fix is that it's moved over and no longer touches the lever. (seen that a lot)

In this side view picture, the lever L is right at the edge of spring S...  loosening the choke plunger nut and centering the spring under the lever would be a good idea...  but heck, it still works so I probably won't bother.

Exactly as Mark says. Save me typing. Not easy is it, holding it while kicking.

Ah, yes, the spring steel thingy....Like my DT3... I was thinkin' of the choke arm on my '74 TY250; it has a detent with a ball bearing.
