fine69,
(sorry still adjusting to your new 'handle'!!) Just saw your text, if the 71 model uses a 214 E4 I have a couple that came on parts bikes. Not sure of condition but will check them out if interested.
Thanks,
swm

You say "fuel not getting in the cylinder" if it's a carburetor problem the cause should be very obvious so I'd be thinking of why it won't suck which leads me to crank seals but would have to be in a bad way or entirely the wrong size not getting close to the crank. Doesn't add up sorry. Has a new base gasket been home made & not cut out for the transfers. Don't laugh I've seen it happen on a job in the early 60's at work. Was a bsa bantam--but!!.

My friend is pretty good on these things. He is a 250 guy. Put crank seals in from a vendor on ebay from Canada he has been using.

Yeah sorry, just my suspicious nature. I like to see everything for myself before being fully convinced of the diagnosis.
Squirt something down the spout & see if you get a response.
I use what we call crc which is just a penetrating oil but certainly lights up anything of mine that being a pain to start.
I put a video up here somewhere but took it down again as wasn't directly relevant to the members post at the time.
Your inlet not sucking comment has me sidetracked though, or maybe you just said not sucking fuel, which is why i think spray in there to see if there's life.
Just been doing that with my @##$ chainsaw & went Brrmm every squirt.
After head scratching for half a day i found the fuel hose from tank was broken where it's squeesed tight though the tank exit hole.
In desperation i put a syringe on the tube at the carb & it just sucked air.
Funny other thing before finding that was wondering if the vacuum pipe for the pumper carb was blocked if it feeds through the base gasket so put the compressor gun onto it & blew, which spun the motor over flatout haha. Lucky it didn't blow out the crank seals with 100+ psi.
Sorry forgotten the question now haha.

I have a carb off a DT2, don't know enough about the DT1 to DT2 differences to know if it will work but if you're interested let me know.

Thanks AS but I believe the DT2 and DT3 are different animals that the 71 and down. Piston ports seem to use different carbs than the later reed valves. I am more familiar with the AT/CT series and the 71 suzuki ts 185 carb shares some parts that are obsolete from Yamaha. Fork boots interchange with 125/175 Yamaha also.

No problem Papa, I thought there was differences but don't know enough about the two. Hopefully you get your carb figured out or find a good one.
